Cooking Lessons In Tuscany
Your accommodations are in a Tuscan villa dating back originally from before 1800 is in a totally secluded environment situated on a hill and offers absolute peace and quiet with spectacular views of the surrounding hills and villages. The rooms have beautiful terracotta floors, open wooded beams and marbled bathrooms with a very luxurious finish. The villa is 50km south of Florence, 35km from Arezzo, 85km from Sienna and 4km from Poppi which is a picturesque medieval town situated in the heart of the Casentino valley.
About the lessons: The cantina where the lessons are given is about 20 meters from the villa where you will stay. Learn to make complete 4 course Italian dinners covering all the basic Italian cooking techniques. All our chefs believe that the only way to learn to cook is to do it yourself. While they will demonstrate the techniques, be prepared to roll up your sleeves and put what you have seen into practice. The lessons are informal and the chefs are flexible and willing to add those special dishes you always wanted to learn to make.
Sample Program 8 Days/7 nights
Day 1
Arrival Florence airport - we can arrange transfer to and from Florence airport on request. Check-in at the villa from 4:00.
Welcoming dinner and introduction given by the chef and a chance to get to know each other.
Day 2
Breakfast is served at the villa and a light lunch at around 1:00 for those who are not sightseeing. Hands-on cooking lesson starts around 3:00 you prepare a four course meal.
For dinner you will dine on your creations accompanied by a delicious Tuscan wines to compliment the dishes.
Day 3
A buffet Breakfast is served and you have time to relax or do some sight seeing or enjoy the pool or take a walk.
A light lunch is served around 1:00. Hands-on cooking lesson starts around 3:00 you prepare a four course meal. For dinner you will dine on your creations.
Day 4
After Breakfast there is full day excursion. The program varies depending on which villa you are staying in but they are both culinary excursions including visits to cheese farms, wine and olive oil tasting. If you are staying in Torre del Tartufo you visit the Casentino area and it also includes a visit to a castle and ceramic factory and if you are staying in Casa Ombuto you visit Arezzo and the surrounding areas and includes a visit to textile factory and shopping in Arezzo. Both days are rounded off with a special dinner in a wonderful location.
Day 5
Breakfast is followed by a morning at leisure. After lunch hands-on cooking lesson starts around 3:00 you prepare a four course dinner.
For dinner you will dine on your creations accompanied by the finest Tuscan wines.
Day 6
After breakfast you have the day for yourselves, to do some sightseeing or just enjoy the peaceful surroundings. An ideal day to make a trip to Florence for shopping and sight seeing as it's only a 50km drive away. Or visit La Verna an ancient monastery where San Francisco de Assisi lived most of his life. You can of course stay at the villas and relax at the pool or take a dip in the Hot Tub.
Dinner reservations can be made at a restaurant of your choice.
Day 7
Breakfast is followed by a morning at leisure and for those interested we have a light lunch ready at 1:00. Hands on cooking lesson starts at 3:00 and you prepare an elaborate buffet dinner covering all the cooking techniques you have learned in the week and many more.
Presentation of food will also be demonstrated. At the grand finale dinner you will be presented with a certificate of attendance.
Day 8
Breakfast and departure Note: It is possible to bring along a non-participating partner who can spend the day enjoying the surroundings, sightseeing or playing golf and could then join the group at dinnertime and join in the excursion. You will receive a cookbook including recipes of all the dishes made during your stay, an exclusive apron and a certificate on completion of the course. The chefs have chosen dishes that can easily be made at home and using ingredients that you generally can also find in most specialty or general stores.
