An In-Depth Visit to Oplontis and Herculaneum
Travel by de luxe air-conditioned vehicle from your lodgings to the site of ancient Oplontis on the shores of the Bay of Naples where you will be joined by an authorized guide and archaeology specialist. Together you shall visit the opulent Villa of Poppea. Recently accorded the distinction of Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO, it is a grand residence dating from the middle of the 1st century BC. It had been enlarged during Imperial times and was undergoing restoration work at the time of the eruption of Vesuvius which destroyed nearby Pompeii. There are various grounds for attributing it to Poppea Sabina, the Emperor Nero's second wife, and it was undoubtedly part of the estates of the Imperial family with all the splendor that implies. Proceed along the Bay to the site of ancient STRONGHERCULANEUM directly on the path of the lava flow but now masterfully unearthed. Enjoy an extensive visit of the extremely rich and impressive archaeological site. This tour may be combined with Pompeii.

POMPEII/ 10 hours
Early morning departure from your accommodations by de luxe private vehicle with English-speaking driver. If traveling from the Amalfi Coast, proceed along the magnificent coastline to the back of the Bay of Salerno - site of major Allied amphibious landings in 1943. Circle the Bay of Naples with magnificent views of smoldering Vesuvius to Ancient Pompeii where you will
be met by an expert archeological guide and accompanied on an
extensive two-hour tour of the ruins. See the Forum, Basilicas and houses of wealthy Pompeians adorned with magnificent frescoes. Visit an ancient snack bar and the lupinarum (house of prostitution).
See the plaster casts of the victims. Have free time for lunch near the ruins or in Pompeii town (as you prefer) before returning to your lodgings.
